Your framing should last longer than we do..

These two Salvador Dali lithographs came into the shop in rough shape. With regular glass, acidic matting, and cardboard used for the backing board. They were purchased from a reputable west coast gallery years ago. We are replacing them with conservation materials all around. Thankfully these will not be lost to light and acid damage, but many will be.
Chances are that you, a relative, or a friend has something framed of monetary, or more importantly, intrinsic value. Take a close look at your framed treasures and look for any signs of fading(colors not as vivid as they used to be),foxing(brown spots on the paper), or acid burn(yellow or brown discoloration). Perhaps damage to the art has not yet happened but the mat bevel is yellowed, the time to change it is now.
Still not sure what to look for? Here’s some photos that show the damage of non-archival framing materials and what they look like. Easier yet, just bring in what you have and we can let you know if these issues need to be addressed.
At Four Star Framing we only use archival materials, and as I like to say, your framing should last longer than we do…
